Houston TASO

The Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) is an association approved by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) to officiate high school games in Texas.

The Houston Chapter of TASO-Baseball (HTASO) has approximately 380 umpires that are authorized to umpire high school baseball games in Harris and surrounding counties where there are more than 180 high schools that play approximately 5,000 games at the varsity and sub-varsity level.

Lenny Amaya

Lenny has been active in baseball as a player, umpire, coach, parent, and now an umpire again for the past 40+ years.  After umpiring many years at the Little League / Pony League levels, he first umpired high school baseball for a couple of years shortly after completing college in the mid-90s.  His job and family then took him away from umpiring.  But, he returned last year and is in second season with Houston TASO. He is a graduate of St.Mary’s University where he played baseball and is a CPA in the state of Texas.

Charlie Strasser

Strasser started his career in sports medicine. He was the head athletic trainer for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and assisted with the San Diego Chargers during baseball’s off season. His expertise has made him an in-demand speaker worldwide on sports medicine. After retiring from professional sports, he found a second career umpiring baseball in the Houston area.

 He became the Houston TASO Chapter Scheduler in 2007.
